Meet Claudio Mendes
Who I Am
I am a psychotherapist and supervisor accredited by BABCP, BACP and IPT UK.
Over the past 16 years, I’ve supported adults facing a wide range of emotional, relational and identity-related challenges.
My experience spans the NHS, probation, bereavement services, multicultural counselling organisations and mental health charities.
My own experience in therapy is what led me to this work. It showed me the relief that comes from being truly understood, and the impact of having space to reflect with someone who is steady, honest and attuned. This continues to shape the way I practice today.
How I Work
My style is grounded, transparent and collaborative. I pay attention to both your inner world and what’s happening in your life right now.
Together, we explore patterns in thoughts, emotions and relationships, while also developing strategies that help you cope, make decisions and navigate challenges more confidently.
I draw on psychoanalytic, interpersonal and cognitive-behavioural approaches, integrating elements of ACT and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) when useful. This allows the work to be reflective, practical and tailored to you.
What Matters to Me
I believe therapy should feel safe, thoughtful and human. You should leave sessions with a clearer understanding of yourself and a sense that change is possible — in ways that feel genuine rather than forced.
Whether your difficulties are long-standing or linked to a specific moment in your life, my aim is to help you gain insight, strengthen resilience and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Outside the Therapy Room
Away from work, I appreciate the simple things: gardening for wildlife, spending time with friends, diving into a cheeky Netflix box-set, and going to the cinema, often on my own, which is a quiet pleasure for me. These moments help me stay grounded and connected to the world outside the therapy room.
