ACT & CFT Therapy Claudio Mendes Counselling

As an experienced Psychotherapist, I utilise other interventions guided by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness & Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).

These therapeutic approaches can be used as standalone treatments or to enhance CBT psychotherapy.

They are tailored to address specific challenges and, most importantly, aligned with the client’s unique preferences.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT is a mindfulness-based therapy that focuses on helping you accept difficult thoughts and feelings while taking meaningful action toward your values and goals. It’s designed to help you live a richer, more fulfilling life, even in the face of challenges.

ACT encourages individuals to accept difficult emotions and thoughts rather than trying to avoid or change them.

It focuses on mindfulness and values-based action to help people live a meaningful life,

even in the presence of pain or discomfort.

Issues it can address:

  Chronic pain

  Anxiety disorders

  Depression

  Stress and burnout

  Trauma recovery

ACT helps you build psychological flexibility, allowing you to experience life

with greater openness and resilience.

By learning to accept difficult emotions and committing to actions aligned with your values, you can find a deeper sense of fulfilment, even in challenging situations.

Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)

CFT is an integrative approach designed to help individuals cultivate self-compassion and address emotional difficulties such as self-criticism, and trauma.

Rooted in evolutionary psychology, CFT helps clients develop a compassionate inner voice

and strengthen their capacity for self-kindness.

By promoting understanding and acceptance of one’s emotions,

CFT encourages healing and personal growth, enabling individuals

to build resilience and improve their overall well-being.

CFT integrates cognitive-behavioural techniques with a focus on developing

self-compassion and understanding the emotional and behavioural

effects of shame.

Issues it can address:

  Shame and self-criticism

  Low self-esteem

  Depression and anxiety

  Trauma and abuse recovery

  Stress

By learning to treat yourself with compassion, you can reduce emotional suffering and build resilience

in the face of life’s challenges.
